Is Plastic Surgery Worth It? We look at 36 procedures

Is getting Plastic Surgery worth it?

For the most part, people considering Plastic Surgery are curious if it the result is worth the time, money, recovery period, possible complications, possibly dealing with new feelings and opinions of friends, etc, etc.

Is Plastic Surgery Worth It

…is all of that worth it?

…is it worth the pain and money?

…is Plastic Surgery worth it?

The intent of this article is not to persuade you one way or the other but rather give you some insights and information to help you make an informed decision.

If I were to give you a list of 1,000 customers that all had Mommy Makeovers, for example, what would you consider to be a good percentage of those people who consider that “worth it”?

Would 90% be meaningful?

If 95% of patients said it was worth it, would that help you in your decision?

Do you expect to see 100% satisfaction?

Fortunately, there is a site that gives us this exact information. I have pulled info from that site and added it the table below as an overview of procedures, worth/not worth ratings, cost and numbers of reviews. This information is pulled Realself.

Take “Body Lift” for example:

Plastic Surgery Body Lift is it worth itA very high cost, very complex procedure, extensive recovery and yet 97% are satisfied out of 882 responses. Drilling into those responses, we see that 28 of them gave it a “Not Worth It” rating while 709 gave it a “Worth It” rating. 145 were undecided. For most business, a 97% “worth it” rating would be an earth shattering result. Imagine if Delta Airline or Apple Computers, as popular as they are, could achieve a point where their customer base have them a 97% satisfaction rating. Unheard of.

But with Plastic Surgery, indeed any medical procedure, we have much higher expectations, and rightfully so. This can be life or death, it can be lifetime of happiness or lifetime of misery, it can be lots of money well spent or it can be lots of money wasted. So a standard “customer satisfaction” rating doesn’t really apply. It’s more comparable to an airline pilot rather than the airline. A pilot who lands their plane 97% of the time is probably not considered a good pilot – I know I wouldn’t want to fly with them. So it is with doctors and surgeons – batting 97% may or may not be acceptable to the masses and really, it’s up to you to decide how you feel about it.

For a 100% rating, I found only one and that is for Natrelle Breast Implants. Of 375 patients, 263 say it’s worth it while 112 are undecided. I would think that if you’re considering Breast Implants, this might be a good consideration.

On the other end of the scale, the lowest rating I could find is Smoothbeam Laser with a rating of 57%, average cost of $450 and 15 reviews. Smoothbeam is a laser skin resurfacing treatment usually used for acne or to help with sun damaged skin. Apparently, it doesn’t work very well. Certainly, if you’re looking for something along these lines, much more research is warranted.

Another consideration is the often overlooked fact that Plastic Surgery can, in fact, improve your overall health!  Of course we wrote about it…it’s one of our most popular posts.  You can see it here: 9 Way Plastic Surgery Can Improve Your Health.

Of course, for those considering plastic surgery, knowing how to prepare is critical.  Take a look at our most popular article “How to Prepare for Plastic Surgery”  How you recover is important as well, so be sure you know how best to address the scarring that can occur with a plastic surgery procedure…take a look at our “Best Scar Removal Cream” article.

Take a look at the table below – it’s solid info and gives good insights on satisfaction and even pricing. We tried to structure it so that you can find info about the “worth it” ratings easily in the table and then provided descriptions for the procedures below the tables. Links are provided for easy navigation.

Good luck!

Breast Augmentation

Breast augmentation surgery is any procedure that enhances the size and shape of a woman’s breasts. It’s frequently performed to enlarge a naturally small bust or to restore breasts that have been affected by pregnancy, weight loss, or aging. The procedure can be performed using implants (either silicone or saline) or fat transfer.

Is Breast Augmentation worth it?

18,767 people have responded and 97% of them say yes, it is.  Pretty strong argument there.  Still, there are 3% who didn’t feel like it was worth it…3% of 18,767 is 563 people that were either outright dissatisfied or, perhaps, just weren’t overly enthusiastic about the results.

Tummy Tuck

Abdominoplasty (commonly known as a tummy tuck) removes excess skin and fat around the stomach while tightening the abdominal wall. The surgery is frequently performed after pregnancy or weight loss, when the skin has become stretched or saggy. A new belly button may need to be surgically created by umbilicoplasty. Other procedures such as liposuction or breast augmentation are often performed at the same time. This is commonly referred to as a mommy makeover.

Is a Tummy Tuck worth it?

97% of the 18,199 patients felt that the $8,100 they shelled out was money well spent.  That’s 17,653 happy customers!  But, that’s also 546 unhappy ones.

Brazilian Butt Lift

A Brazilian butt lift (BBL) uses a person’s own fat to enhance the size and shape of the buttocks. A plastic surgeon first performs liposuction to remove fat from other areas of the body (often the stomach, hips, and thighs), then injects that fat into the backside. Additional liposuction can be done around the butt to improve the appearance of lift and contour.

Is a Brazilian Butt Lift worth it?

As always, only you can answer that but 93% of 16,481 people seem to think so, and at an average cost of $6,550, that’s quite a statement.

Rhinoplasty

Rhinoplasty (more commonly referred to as a nose job) is a surgical procedure that reshapes or resizes the nose. It can correct a variety of concerns, including a visible bump on the nasal bridge, a droopy or enlarged nasal tip, a nose that’s off-center or crooked, or asymmetry due to a previous injury. Those who don’t want to undergo surgery may consider a non-surgical nose job, which uses fillers such as Radiesse or Juvederm to smooth out humps and bumps.

Is Rhinoplasty worth it?

The nose knows…I had to say it.  But seriously, 90% of 9,975 people seem to think so…which, of course, means that about 997 don’t.  So about 1,000 say no, about 9,000 say yes.

Mommy Makeover

The mommy makeover (also known as a mummy makeover in the UK) is a combination of procedures designed to restore various parts of the body, particularly after pregnancy. Are Breast Implants worth it?

6,861 out of 7,001 feels that the average cost of $7,001 was money well spent.  Anything with a 98% approval rate is amazing, but still, that also means that 240 patients feel the opposite way.
